Escape from Tarkov: The best sniper rifles, tactics, and maps recommend

Escape from Tarkov is a huge game, with a lot of weapons available to the player. Picking and choosing your armory becomes a game in itself. This game has over 60 different guns as of this publication.  Sniper rifles have a very specific description and offer a very specific set of advantages. So for many players, sniper rifles are Favorite choice. This guide contains what I think is the best sniper rifle, from all aspects, several sniper rifles that are very cost-effective. Some sniper rifles are more affordable than others, and a few have a great combination of both value and specs. These are all of the sniper rifles in Escape from Tarkov, which ones to use, and which to avoid.

In Escape from Tarkov, While some sniper rifles offer great stats, they can be a bit over expensive for what they are. If you want to come out ahead in more raids, you’ve got to balance the cost to the risk.

1. The Best Sniper Rifle

Mosin Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

The Mosin is a bolt action almost sniper rifle, which can be customized a fair bit. Its rate of fire and distance make it a good choice as a sniper rifle. This is a middle of the road weapon. It isn’t anything particularly special, but it still going to be effective for you. Its budget makes it a good beginner entry if you’re looking to try out sniping, but you’re not sure if it is for you yet. This is probably the best budget sniper but there are other great choices too.

SV-98 Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

The SV-98 is the best sniper rifle for really long distances. However, Escape from Tarkov isn’t a game that facilitates this. Even running the game well you’re going to see a drop-off in visibility over longer distances. This is a problem for a sniper rifle that is most effective at the very long range. This makes the SV-98 a bit of an oddity. It is a decent weapon, but there isn’t much call to actually use it.

DVL-10 Saboteur Sniper Rifle

The DVL-10 is one of the more expensive sniper rifles in Escape from Tarkov. In the hands of a skilled player, this Escape from Tarkov sniper rifle can get a lot of damage done. You should be able to engage from a distance and minimize the chance of losing equipment. This makes it a great sniper rifle. However, in practice snipers aren’t always going to be safe. This weapon is a little slow-moving, and its cost is a major factor. This is a more expensive sniper rifle, so it might be suitable for use all the time.

Molot VPO-215 .366 TKM Rifle

• Recoil – 245 Vertical 585 Horizontal

This is a bolt action sniper rifle that does decent damage but is quite slow to fire and maneuver. This isn’t a complete deal-breaker, but it is far from the best weapon out there. This is a good thing to use if you’re really pushed for equipment. However, you’ll be better off selling these weapons and purchasing a better one.

Orsis T-5000 .308 Sniper Rifle

• Recoil – 165 Vertical 630 Horizontal

The Orsis is one of the newer Escape from Tarkov Sniper Rifles. It is a solid entry and definitely worth hanging onto if you loot it. This isn’t the fastest weapon; however, it does have decent stats. The recoil isn’t great, but it is far from the worst. While this isn’t a sniper rifle that you should seek out, you won’t lose out on much by using it for riskier raids.

Remington Model 700 Sniper Rifle

• Recoil – Vertical 234 Horizontal 845

This is one of the best Escape from Tarkov sniper rifles. It is really fast firing with the semi-automatic system over bolt action. This lets you get more shots off and more quickly. It even takes ammo which does great penetration. This is a really solid choice for a sniper rifle and should be the standard sniper rifle for you.

2. The Sniper Tactics Tips

Snipers are an underutilized part of the kit in Escape from Tarkov. While it is tricky, it is possible to do well as a sniper in the game. These are some tips and tricks.

• Perfect Picking up on Audio – Sound around you can tell you a lot in this game. You should use the noises around you as an indication of any type of danger you might be in Escape from Tarkov
• Use The Right Ammo – Do some research on the ammo types that you can use. Some have much better penetration for a sniper.
• Get to Know the Game First – Even if you’re a sniper in other titles, you should get to know Escape from Tarkov as a beginner The game’s gunplay feels quite different, so it is a different set of skills.
• Learn the Maps – Get to know each of the maps and where players will be moving. Learning the chokepoints will allow you to find a vantage point that overlooks them and do the most damage. Our map guides that go through all of this are linked at the bottom.

High ergonomics are generally your goal with sniper rifles and covering each sniper depends on your account’s progress and a lot of personal preference. Instead, I’ll just make some general build notes here:

Sights - Even cheap sight upgrades are not to be underestimated. Iron sights might seem fine at first, but the increased visibility from red-dot and holographic sights can make you much more maneuverable, while even slight magnification can help you spot and engage targets further out than with irons.

Suppressors - The suppressor is your friends, they’ll sometimes murder your ergonomics but really a suppressor can make the difference between trading out with someone’s buddy and taking out an armored trio without them knowing what happened.

Thermal Scopes - Don’t underestimate thermal scopes. They’re expensive, and many players treat them with reverence, but they still usually don’t understand just how valuable they really are. At night and in the day thermal scopes allow for massively enhanced visibility across great distances, especially in outdoor areas where normally a green shirt moving through trees would be difficult to spot, but a bright white light shining through some black branches isn’t.

Customs

Customs provides a good number of long-range sightlines down the main road, across the bridge, and even a high up vantage point in construction.

Woods

Woods is built for snipers, with brush and trees providing your primary cover, it really emphasizes the sniper playstyle and tests both your ability to move with stealth and to spot others trying to do the same.

Shoreline

Shoreline offers some baby woods gameplay, but with plenty of building and non-forest environments to break things up.

As a sniper, you’re given no forgiveness on a missed shot, but a single well placed round will prevent a fight from ever happening. The biggest downside to sniper rifles as a category is the rate of fire since anything short of a chest or headshot will give your opponent ample time to send several rounds back at you. The advantages you have to turn against them are exceptional long-range performance and per shot lethality.
