Path of Exile 3.6 Essence Drain Most Popular Build

Essence Drain (often referred to as ED) is a spell that fires a chaos projectile that applies a damage over time debuff when it hits the enemy. The spell also regenerates a portion of the debuff damage as life. If the target dies while afflicted with both Contagion and Essence Drain, the remaining duration of both degeneration effects will be spread to nearby enemies.


In Path of Exile 3.6 Synthesis, Essence Drain has been modified. In Path of Exile 3.6 Synthesis, Essence Drain. Mana Cost at gem level 1 is now 8 (was 9). Mana Cost at gem level 20 is now 23 (was 27). Now has a cast time of 0.7 seconds (from 0.75). Now explodes on impact, applying the Essence Drain debuff to enemies in a small radius. This explosion deals with no hit damage. As a result of this change, the Essence Drain now has the Area gem type. Now deals 9 to 14 Chaos damage at gem level 1 (from 6 to 9) and 433 to 649 Chaos damage at gem level 20 (from 334 to 501). Now deals 31.3 base Chaos damage per second at gem level 1 (from 21.3) and 1503.2 base Chaos damage per second at gem level 20 (from 1159).

[PoE 3.6 Trickster] Essence Drain & Contagion Build

This build is designed for general map clearing & to be an excellent league-starter build. However, if you are looking to kill end-game bosses this build CAN do them, but will require investment and even at that point there are a lot of other builds that would work better than this. You can always switch around as the guide will go into from a 1H/Shield approach to a +2/+3 PoE Chaos Gem LvL staff which makes it able to farm bosses easier, but as mentioned; Other builds will be stronger for that purpose.
Another really strong option for high-end-game availability is to use the Indigon helmet which will significantly increase your characters dmg output and available end-game content :)

To help with the massive HP on map bosses we will be using Vaal Lightning Trap to increase the damage taken. Shield Charge is combined with Fortify for that sweet defensive buff as well!

2. A build that allows you to level as itself without any external abilities required.
3. If the build you seek can start with a very low budget with possible upgrades for higher POE currency.
4. If you like to play a build that works wonders in the low budget to accumulate enough currency fast for the higher budget version.

Gems Setup:
Essence Drain:
- Essence Drain, Void Manipulation, Controlled Destruction, Swift Affliction, Efficacy, Empower lvl 3+
Contagion:
- Contagion, Faster Casting, Increased Area of Effect, Arcane Surge
Cast When Damage Taken:
- Cast When Damage Taken, Immortal Call, Increased Duration, Vaal Lightning Trap
Wither:
- Spell Totem, Multiple Totem Support, Wither, Faster Casting
Shield Charge:
- Shield Charge, Faster Attacks, Fortify
Auras:
- Clarity, Blasphemy, Enfeeble 
Could use TC over Enfeeble (matter of taste). Also, consider getting an item with +1 curse so that you can use the Witchfire Brew Flask for increased dmg output.

Pantheon:
Major God:
- Soul of Lunaris
Basically just helps with avoiding some projectile damage

Minor God:
- Soul of Ryslatha
Basically, just an additional layer of defense when you're on low life.

Bandits:
Kill them all or save Alira. It comes down to a matter of taste. I personally prefer to kill them all.

[PoE 3.6 Occultist] The "Ultimate" Soulrend/Essence Drain Build

In 3.6 update, a couple of new Chaos Skills appear, such as Soulrend, Malevolence, and Bane. As well as older Chaos Skills get a significant boost and revamp!
We will be using these skills in 3.6 to league start as well as deeper explore different combinations with a well-know Essence Drain + Contagion combo (as Soulrend and ED stacks and count as different sources of DoT).
Over last months I've been checking various sources on current Essence Drain situation as well as tried to squeeze max damage out of it. In this guide, you will (hopefully) find the most comprehensive and detailed information on different ED setups! 

Pros & Cons:
+ extremely safe (2-3x defensive Curses, 12K+ ES)
+ easy to league start (can run on Uniques with good sustain)
+ requires only 1 6-Link for end-game
+ all mods, even no mana regen is possible
+ no need for Wither totem
- with ED+Contagion you constantly need to cast 2 skills. If you want to spam just 1 and zoom-zoom, this build might not be for you :)
- Not a fast mapper
- End-Game bossing takes a while

You can also use Blight with Infused Channelling and Arcane Surge in a 3L.

Selling a blue wand/scepter along with a CHAOS/POISON gem will result in a +1 to Chaos Gems weapon. Use this recipe early on!

First of all, thank GGG for Buffing ED damage for 20% in 3.6 which is significantly improves boss fights. The new aura gem Malevolence which gives 20% at more damage over time is added, 50% mana reserve hurts, but I hope we can find a use of it.

Temporal chains are nerfed, that's why we should be more careful with rare and unique enemies before we get the aspect of spider aura as a crafted mod on gloves. The main idea of this ED build is using Temporal Chains and Aspect of the spider Curse auras for slowing enemies as...

Pros & Cons:
+ Very good league starter
+ Budget
+ Decent clear speed(not for all map layouts)
+ Very good lab farmer
+ Can do any map modes(allows to buy cheap corrupted maps)
+ Easy mechanics, is a good build for the new player ( i think )
+ Good at mine
- Low single target dps, need to use blight as a second dps skill.
- To get ending content shaper/red elder need to be skilled enough.
- Painfull with Fortification syndicates (Hard to break gates at hight tier maps)

This build's tri-curse utility. Enfeeble and temporal chains auras with 80% increased curse effectiveness means that most enemies can barely touch you, and a Witchfire Brew flask provides on-demand smoke cloud and increased damage over time effects. Lastly, the profane bloom ascendancy node ensures your curses can be applied to all enemies, and aspect of the spider provides an additional defensive layer and damage multiplier to make use of the rest of your mana.
