Path of Exile 3.6 Ice Spear Most Popular Build Guide

Ice Spear is a cold spell that fires shards of ice. After traveling a short distance the shards enter a second form. The second form can pierce enemies and has increased projectile speed as well as increased critical strike chance. This unique feature of Ice Spear makes it ideal for damaging distant targets, but at the same time makes it substantially weaker when used at close range.

In Path of Exile 3.6 Synthesis, Ice Spear has Mana Cost at gem level 1 is now 8 (was 6). Mana Cost at gem level 20 is now 23 (was 20). Now deals 22 to 33 Cold damage at gem level 1 (from 14 to 21) and 383 to 575 Cold damage at gem level 20 (from 369 to 553).

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist]The Sphere of Spears- Winter Orb CwC Ice Spear Build

The guide is now more representative of how the build changed in my time playing it. If something it's still not clear feel free to point it out, I would like the guide to be as clear as possible. This is my take on the Winter Orb+ Ice Spear combo. I hope that you'll find the guide helpful.

Pros & Cons:
+ Can be started with basically no currency
+ Feels like Blade Vortex for clearing, but safer because is ranged
+ Ice Spear is basically Barrage for spells
+ Nice clearing speed thanks to Onslaught, Frenzy Charges, and Shield Charge
+ Nice single target dps (right now sitting at 2.3M Shaper dps)
+ Can do red maps with little investment
+ Syndacate encounters very manageable (prior to the nerf, now is even easier)
± Can achieve reflect immunity (via one of the cheapest Watcher's Eye mod)
± Some map combos are very annoying (but still runnable)
- Require good positioning to achieve max Ice Spear dps

Main Skill:
Winter Orb and Ice Spear
Reason: Both scales off +# project. Winter Orb is good for clearing but sucks for single target, while for Ice Spear is the opposite, so they basically compensate each other.

Ascendancy:
Witch Elementalist
Reason: Elementalist has a good clearing and good quality of life bonuses.

Bandits:
Help Alira
Reason: We go crit, so the multi crit damage is good. Mana regen and all res are good too.

Ascendancy:
1) Shaper of Desolation
2) Pendulum of Destruction
3) Beacon of Ruin
4) Mastermind of Discord
Feel free to change this, but don't sleep on the Shaper of Desolation + Beacon of Ruin combo, because it's huge for mapping.
This is especially important if this is your first character in the league because you are going to map for a good time before being able to do your Uber Lab

Pantheon:
General setup
Major God: Soul of Lunaris - super nice for mapping
Minor God: Soul of Garukhan - for the movement speed buff

Uber Elder setup
Major God: Soul of Arakaali - boost life and es regen if stopped taking dot recently
Minor God: Soul of Ralakesh - reduced Phy's dot took

Gems Link:
Main link in order of priority (6L)
Winter Orb + CwC + Ice Spear + GMP + Controlled Destruction + Hypothermia

Single target setup (4L)
Frost Bomb + Arcane Surge (6) + Vaal Righteous Fire + Increased Duration
To debuff, cold res, activate the Arcane Surge buff and gain a lot of more spell damage against bosses.

Cast when Damage Taken setup (3L)
CwDT (1) + Immortal Call (3) + Increased Duration

Herald of Ice setup (1/2/3L)
Herald of Ice + Ice Bite + Innervate/Onslaught

You can run Herald of Ice by itself if you want, but if you have free sockets you can spice it up with some on kill buffs.

Movement Skill (2L)
Flame Dash + Faster Casting

Non linked skills
Purity of Ice - Cold mitigation and also Phy's mitigation (via Watcher's Eye mod)
Arctic Armour - Fire and Phys mitigation
Lightning Golem - For the increased cast and attack speed plus the aura he gives occasionally

[PoE 3.6 Occultist]Ryu's CI Winter orb CWC Ice spear Build

This guide is not for absolute beginners. But it was my starter and budget build. So it works even with almost no gear. Now it is Lv 100 and quite min-maxed. Mapping is very fast, and I killed uber elder deathless(In most attempts) as well.

Pros & Cons:
+ Can be played as a budget/starter.
+ No leeching (except mana).
+ Insanely fast start-up of energy shield recharge.
+ Can Facetank most things in the game even without leech.
+ Herald of Ice explosions.
+ 9k ES
- Can get expensive real fast.
- Addicting.
- Cannot do Ele reflect.
- Cannot do Atziri
- Cannot turn to MF very well.
- Cannot do SSF

Ascendancy:
You want to take Void Beacon first. Wicked Ward and Vile Bastion next. and Lastly Forbidden Power.

Pantheon:
We want Soul of Arakaali, for reduced damage taken from Damage Over time, (For ignite, cause we are immune to Bleed/Poison.
And then Soul of Abberath for 50% reduced Ignite duration of You. This makes a pretty big difference against fire Bosses. So keep that in mind.

Main setup - Winter Orb / Cast While Channeling / Ice Spear / Greater Multiple Projectiles / Power Charge On Crittical / Controlled Destruction.
Helmet - Temp chains / Blasphemy / Vaal Discipline / Enlighten
Gloves - Cast when damage taken / Ball Lightning - Greater Multiple Projectiles / Knockback

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist]Winter Orb CwC Ice Spear Build

Since people keep asking me stuff ingame instead of reading the thread I will from now on ignore all questions from direct messages, sorry. Pretty sure everything has been said in this thread, just read through it.

This is my first ever build guide, so any feedback is highly appreciated. Ever since I'd seen the Winter Orb and Ice Spear reveals, I knew I wanted to play a CwC version of this as my league starter. Luckily for me, it turned out to be actually quite good! So I wanted to share this build for people who might be interested.

Pros & Cons:
+ Decent mix of clear speed and bossing capability
+ Can start on a very small budget and be upgraded as much as you feel like
+ HOI shatters are always fun
+ Feels decently tanky for a caster
- Can not run elemental reflect mods
- No leech mods can be sketchy on difficult maps
- No ZoomZoom build (no shield charge/whirling blades/QOTF)

Ascendancy:
1. Pendulum of Destruction
2. Shaper of Desolation
3. Beacon of Ruin
4. Mastermind of Discord
Note: You can swap Mastermind of Discord for Paragon of Calamity if you just want reflect immunity and some extra leech while working on atlas progression. Later on Mastermind of Discord is a really juicy damage buff though, so I'd recommend swapping back to it, at least for bossing.

Soul of Lunaris
Soul of Shakari

[PoE 3.6 Inquisitor]Shaper Down! Freezing Pulse + Ice Spear Totem Build

New Ice Spear is powerful to single target but not map farming.
Its fires 2 Projectile ( GMP + 4, Jewel + 2, Helmet + 1. Can up to 9), with great crit chance and crit multi, making it is powerful to kill the strong mob. And I use Freezing Pulse to compensate for the disadvantage. Cause Self-cast Ice Spear has some delay when starting to shot, so I use totem to help me to cast. Specially thanks to new support gem Multiple Totem Support make Non-Hierophant character can use 3 totems at one time

Pros & Cons:
+ Fast Mapping
+ Boss Killer
+ High crit chance (Without flask, FP 45%, IS 87.5)
+ League Starter, Tabula is enough
+ Blind is good, higher survivability
+ Infinity Mana
- Less HP, easily killed by Syndicate
- Not faster than COC build
- Seems cannot kill Uber Elder
- Not enough sockets cause this build using 2 skills

Gems Link:
Freezing Pulse - Echo - Bonechill - Hypothermia - (Blind) - (Faster Casting) - (Mana Leech)
Ice Spear - GMP - Hypothermia - Controlled Destruction(Bonechill) - Spell Totem - Multiple Totem
Herald of Ice - Curse On Hit - Assassin's Mark - Ice Bite
Shield Charge - Faster Attack - Fortify
CWDT - Immortal Call - Increased Duration
Vitality - Summon Lightning Golem - Flame Dash - Clarity(VRF)

1. Instruments of Virtue
2. Righteous Providence
3. Inevitable Judgement
4. Augury of Penitence

[PoE 3.6 Assassin]Winter orb CWC Ice Spear Build

3.6 Update:
Made some minor adjustments to the build, went poison with a cold Volkuurs and a Fenumus' toxins.
Main reason for going poison is cos it unlocks one of the best dps support in the game:
At 10 stacks of poison which happens in a near instant due to 100% chance to poison, we get 50% more damage with hits and this support gem also scales our added chaos damage. It works much better than hypothermia which sadly doesn't work for uber elder fights. Also changed ascendency from ambush and assassinate to noxious strike. Next item that I wanna change would be the amulet.

Pros & Cons:
+ 9k+ EHP with Fenumus Shroud, 7k+ EHP with a tabula!
+ Cheap to start gearing!
+ No gem swapping!
+ End game viable!
+ Can do all map mods!
+ Nice clearspeed!
+ Can handle t16 syndicates easily due to playstyle
- Nonfacetank build
- Not T1 clear speed
- Less DPS than double voids
- Quite a lot of buttons to press

Ascendancy:
Unstable Infusion -> Deadly Infusion -> Opportunistic -> Ambush and Assassinate

Bandits:
Alira - Crit multi, resists and mana regen

Pantheon:
Major God: Brine king when mapping/early in the atlas, Soul of arakaali for uber elder
Minor God: Soul of Ryslatha when in the lab, Yugul for Uber Elder.

[PoE 3.6 Saboteur]Ice Spear Miner Build

3.6 Update:
With the addition of some more flat Life and Mana Regeneration on the tree, this build got a small, but significant, defensive buff. Additionally, the base damage of Ice Spear and the Critical Strike Chance cap were both increased, resulting in a small boost in damage.

The 3.6 Update is mainly centered around self-casting as well as a few new chaos and holy themed spells, so it was unlikely that this build would be affected too much, but I'm happy to see that it avoided the nerf hammer and was actually buffed (lol).

Gem Setup:
The tree is very similar to most other miners, I recommend you start leveling with Explosive Trap until you can use the 5-Link setup of Ice Spear + Remote Mine + Minefield + Greater Multiple Projectiles + Trap and my Damage. Please note that if you have a 4-Linked Tremor Rod, you can forgo the Remote Mine support.

6L (or 5L Tremor Rod): Ice Spear + Remote Mine + Minefield + Greater Multiple Projectiles + Trap and Mine Damage + Cold Penetration.

If you have a Tremor Rod, replace Remote Mine with Controlled Destruction.
Additionally, once you acquire a shaped helmet with the mod: Place an Additional Mine, replace the Minefield support with either Increased Critical Damage or Elemental Focus. Elemental Focus has a significant DPS advantage over Increased Critical Damage, however, it prevents your Ice Spear from freezing and shattering enemies which is a great quality of life while mapping. I suggest using either Elemental Proliferation (once your damage is high enough) or Increased Critical Damage while mapping and swapping to Elemental Focus for endgame bossing.

Another endgame optimization which might be available to you in order to eke out a little bit of additional damage once your gear is fairly well advanced is swapping out Cold Penetration for Added Cold Damage. I would only recommend this if you are using Frost Bomb and Wise Oak in conjunction with either a helmet with the Delve-specific modifier Nearby Enemies have -9% to Cold Resistance or the Labyrinth boot enchantment Damage Penetrates 10% of Enemy Elemental Resistances if you haven't Killed Recently. These additional sources of elemental penetration reduce the effectiveness of the Cold Penetration support relative to the flat added damage of the Added Cold Damage support.

Ascendancy:
You should pretty much always take Pyromaniac first, as it is your main defensive mechanic and also reduces the Mana cost of your mines so that they are easier to sustain.

Secondly, if you feel confident in your defenses, go for Bomb Specialist. If you are taking more damage than you are comfortable with, take Born in the Shadows.
Your third ascendancy node again depends on your defenses but also on your gear. If you already have a helmet with the mod Place an additional Mine and you are confident in your defenses, take Demolitions Specialist (or Bomb Specialist, if you took Born in the Shadows before). If you're feeling a bit squishy, take Born in the Shadows.
For your last node, take either Demolitions Specialist or Born in the Shadows, depending on which is still available to you.

[PoE 3.6 Deadeye]Ice Spear CoC AKA Ice Laser Build

Ice Spear had been reworked to give huge single target potential with the ability to use all its projectiles to hit a single target.

Cast on Crit has also been buffed to have an internal cooldown lowered to 0.15s, allowing around 7 triggers per second. Finally, the new skill Lancing Steel is the ideal way to trigger cast on crit as it has a long range and can hit the same target multiple times with a single attack.

This build requires a variety of support from ascendancy choice which deadeye provides:
- crit chance
- pierce
- accuracy
- attack speed (with the tailwind)
- life gain on hit

Pros & Cons:
+ Look awesome shooting out so many ice spears it looks like a laser beam
+ Very powerful single target
+ Safe play style freezing everything a screen away
- Can't do ele reflect

Gems Setup:
Main CoC setup
Lancing Steel - Cast on Critical Strike - Ice Spear - Cold Penetration - Greater Multiple Projectiles - Hypothermia
KEEP LANCING STEEL AT LVL 1 TO PRESERVE MANA

Order of importance
1) Lancing Steel - Cast on Critical Strike - Ice Spear - Greater Multiple Projectiles
2) Cold Penetration
3) Hypothermia

Hypothermia can be subbed for Increased Critical Strikes or if you feel your crit is too low or power charge on crit if you don't have the helm enchant.
Auras
Herald of Ice
Blasphemy - Warlord's Mark
(if you already have a ring with a curse on hit warlord's mark you can use Aspect of the Spider)
War Banner
Movement
Whirling Blades - Faster Attacks - Fortify

Cast when Damage Taken
CWDT - Increased Duration - Immortal Call - Frostbomb
CWDT - Cold Snap - Summon Ice Golem
Others
Vaal Righteous Fire
Vaal Haste

[PoE 3.6 Deadeye]Javelin Deadeye | Spectral Throw CoC Ice Spear Build

This build aims to combine the newly buffed Cast on Critical Strike Support with the many projectile synergies from the Deadeye ascendancy into a fast-paced mapping character with respectable single target damage.

Pros & Cons:
+ Fast clear speed
+ Respectable bossing dps
+ Active hit-and-run play style
+ Strong sustain
+ Playable on a budget with much room for investment
- Susceptible to stunning hits, can't face tank endgame bosses

Ascendancy:
That's right, this is a non-assassin Cast on Critical Strike build. Though it is certainly possible to play this build as an Assassin, there are several reasons why Deadeye prevails in this specific build.

Rupture is great for this build, as it allows you to apply to bleed with Spectral Throw, enabling more critical strike bonuses as well as life gain on hit. The life gain on hit is quite significant considering the hit rate this build can accomplish, this is one reason to choose Deadeye over Assassin. Keep in mind that these bonuses apply to Ice Spear as well despite its inability to cause bleeding.

Skill Setup:
Main Skill (6L):
- Spectral Throw* (level 1)
- Ice Spear*
- Cast on Critical Strike Support*
- Hypothermia Support
- Increased Critical Strikes Support*
- Greater Multiple Projectiles Support*

Auras (3L):
- Herald of Ice
- Zealotry
- Enlighten

Utility (4L):
- Vortex*
- Arcane Surge (level 8/9)
- Increased Duration*
- Bonechill
