Winter Orb is a channelling skill gem. In Path of Exile 3.6 Synthesis, Winter Orb has Now deals 25 to 31 Cold damage at gem level 1 (from 23 to 28) and 232 to 289 Cold damage at gem level 20 (from 258 to 322). Now has an added damage effectiveness of 50% (from 60%).

Last Season [3.5] Betrayal: I did Uber Elder and Shaper on a Lvl 90 Character that had higher and better stats for DPS and Defenses than 99% of the Level 100 Ice Spear builds on POE.NINJA even though they are using 8-link Staves which cost 50EX... My whole build cost less than one stupid (but Awesome) Unnatural Instinct Jewel.

+ GGG Gave us for Free 2 Million Extra DPS and 1k EHP + ES Leech GG!
+ combines Massive DPS with exceptional safety and Defensive Strategies
+ Cheap and Accessible Required Unique(s) other than the Shav's which will be pricy this season I think
+ Webbed, Chilled and Shattering enemies everywhere
+ No need for a Golem or a totem (Also no need to remember to cast them)
+ Only Two Activated skills and one is frost bomb which has a duration
- no need to think about flasks… smash every flask, all the time… Great for Popsicle stick players (Or those with macros setup)
+ Doesn’t run Blasphemy or self-cast curses so no need to kiss the monsters up close
+ customizable curses for each map you enter
+ Budget End Game Gear uniques
+ NOT socket hungry so you can cut out sockets to have Abyssal Sockets
+ Capable of clearing Maps and Bosses really well without any clunky mechanics or weapon swapping, snapshotting, gem-swapping or well anything

- You need to understand the basic mechanics of the character, itemization and the game to play this build... e.g. the importance of resistance, what is LL, how you get to the end game in a chaos mitigation/immune situation, and how to scale damage, particularly in the time leading up to the Shavronne's wrappings.

- Zero Leech/No Regen maps are not as fun as you might think (Both are doable)

This is a build that can clear ALL content (maps/shaper/lab/atziri/uber elder etc). It must be FUN and Engaging, not cost an extraordinary amount of currency, and have the ability to be a league starter with the ability to do all content later on as you upgrade and invest into your character. On top of this, it must have fast movement or move skills and not have to worry about any weird issues that ruin builds for me.

Pros & Cons:
+ Very fun and engaging build to play
+ Very fast pace build
+ Incredibly fast movement speed with phase run + Quicksilver
+ Flame Dash with faster casting to jump gaps/cliffs
+ One of the best AOE clears in the game hands down
+ Able to do strong burst single target damage which shreds map bosses
+ Incredibly fun self-crafting on tons of gear pieces
+ Can do almost all map mods
+ Able to do all content (all maps, uber atziri, all labs, shaper and guardians, uber elder)
+ Extremely high defensive capabilities
+ Immune to corrupting blood
+ Warlord's Mark on Hit
+ Aspect of the spider makes monsters covered in webs which looks sweet
+ Free Arcane Surge + Inpulsa explosion effect
+ Easy/Cheap to gear with room for lots of improvements as you get more currency
- Ele Reflect maps are NOT possible
- Physical Reflect maps are best to be avoided
- Hexproff AND no regen on the same map should be avoided.
- Can be slightly laggy when you run into allies cannot die totem
- Single Target dps is hard to maintain for anything with multiple phases
- Not the best uber elder farmer, though can still be done decently
- Can be decently expensive to fully min/max yourself for end game gear

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist]Beginner Friendly: Winter Orb Build

This build doesn't have any specific item that truly enables it to be played. However, the core design of this specific version being the Occultist crit CI one is using 2x Void Batteries which is also the main factor that brings this build from a potential low budget to a high budget state.
However, the build can easily be done with Incursion weapons, you simply search for "Cold Damage" and have that be at least 80%+ then you can chose from base items granting Elemental Penetration or even more spell damage resulting in well over 100% increased damage + some flat spell dmg additions to the build which is VERY cheap and effective.

Is this build for you?
1. If you are looking for a Winter Orb build that has good enough single target damage for the end-game!
2. A build capable of competing in the clear speed meta.
3. Boss kill potential despite being designed as a clear speed build.
4. A cheap yet very effective clear speed build.
5. If you prefer a build guide that has a video linked to it.

Winter Orb is a channeling ability that builds up stages up to 10 (12 with helmet enchant from the uber lab), that then decays over a duration. The higher the stack is the more frequent your orb you've created over your head will shoot projectiles that then explodes on the ground in an AoE based damage area. This AoE damage shotguns, which means that each projectile can hit the same target, this is why we use support gems like Lesser Multiple Projectiles as well as Concentrated Effect. This makes the build function very similarly to a Blade Vortex build where you charge up the ability, then you move through the map whilst your ability kills everything to then only stop briefly to recharge a few stages of your ability.

Major God:
- Soul of Lunaris
Basically just helps with avoiding some projectile damage as well as chaining projectiles from our golem to us.

- Soul of the Brine King
This is used to avoid getting chain stunned, however, we should always have active stages of Winter Orb so this shouldn't be needed. I prefer to Lunaris myself.

Minor God:
- Soul of Tukohama
Basically when we are channeling Winter Orb we are very stationary vs bosses this allows us to build up some mitigation during those seconds.

[PoE 3.6 Ascendant] Winter Orb CWC Ice Spears Build

Changes in 3.6:
-Slayer nerfs: This is still a pretty viable build even with the nerfs to the slayer ascendancy for the ascendant.
-Winter orb loses some dps but we are only using it to clear
-Ice Spear gains additional base dmg
-Vaal RF is less powerful (-11% more dmg)
-No changes to cast while channeling

This build clears pretty fast as expected of a winter orb setup while dealing millions of dps to obliterate bosses and syndicate members with ice spears. The idea here is to combine the fastest clearing spell build that has built-in auto-targeting with the highest dps spell in the game to create a build that is both fasts at clearing and has an amazing single target. The scion ascendancy gives us the option to obtain slayer leech as well as reflect immunity on top of the good clear speed and single target we already have

It should be noted that the ice spears projectiles have a 2nd form which is much more powerful than the 1st form (more crit and crit multi) and hence there is a need to position yourself at a suitable distance to maximize your dps. You can check out the gif of my character downing minotaur above where I stand at just the right distance to hit and shotgun the boss with all the 2nd form ice spears projectiles.

Probably elementalist + inquisitor for this league
elementalist + slayer is fine too. 2.5 seconds of over leech is still pretty decent and we do have a high leech uptime when moving through maps because winter orb is an auto-targeting duration skill

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist]Winter Orb Highest DPS Build

Winter Orb is one of the most popular skills in Betrayal, with every 10th player actually using it!
Since the beginning of the league, I've been observing things and looking for a better way to squeeze the most out of it.

Pros & Cons:
+ fast mapper, crit heavy
+ 6000 HP with decent leech and some regen
+ homing projectiles, you don't need to aim anything
+ fantastic AOE
+ insane for Incursions and Delves
- Weak to Physical damage and heavy hits (any buffed bosses)
- Not the absolute fastest mapper if you want to stay alive too, but very strong nevertheless

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist]BSC Winter Orb~2 min UE~Ridiculous Clear Speed Build

Many on many Elementalist Winter Orb builds have been posted boasting high-end game content damage and clear. This version is far superior in single target damage while sacrificing defenses on a skill that is naturally tanky through movement and phase run abuse. "Dead mobs can't attack" except Celeron while being dead, the piece of shit. ANYWAY. Let's get into it.
We took some hits, Damage lowered, Craft lowered, ETC. I will continue to fully test but I see no problem in losing around 15-20% dmg. Should still be more than enough.

Pros & Cons:
+ Ridiculous Clear Speed
+ Ridiculous Movement Speed
+ Ridiculous Delver
+ Ridiculous Bosser
+ Builds full built with around 30ex
+ Helm Enchantment is not needed, although it is 10% more damage
- Not hardcore viable
- Can't tank due Shaper Balls
- Expensive/Tedious to MinMax

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist] Ivonbeton's Winter Orb Cheap And Effective For All Content Build

Infused Channeling support has been added! This is a really strong gem and probably will make the build even stronger! You can switch out any support gem for this new one except for Greater Multiple Projectiles. I've updated the guide and took out Hypothermia/Added Cold and replaced it with Infused Channelling. You can still use either Hypothermia or Added Cold instead of Concentrated Effect if you'd like. It all depends on your preference. I've also updated the pastebin link to the new tree.

Also, Elemental Overload has been changed. It's not as easy to get it going these days. I would slot a Storm Brand linked to Cast When Damage Taken, Increased Critical Strikes and Immortal Call. You drop Vortex and Increased Duration.

That's about the gist of it! This took more effort than I anticipated, but I hope it's useful to someone. The wonderful thing about this build is that I'm fairly certain this will work just as good next league. The skill needs some QoL changes, but it certainly doesn't deserve a nerf. They might tweak it a bit, but I'd sooner see it getting buffed than nerfed. I hope I didn't jinx it now.

So this will most likely be a great league starter to take into endgame come next league! Thanks for reading and stay sane exiles.

+ Hardcore viable due to Mind over Matter and the ability to freeze enemies
+ Herald of Ice 'Splosions are extremely satisfying
- Winter Orb targets randomly which can be a pain to deal with
- Uber Atziri is very frustrating with this build unless picking up the Paragon of Calamity ascendency
- Can't handle Elemental Reflect and struggles a bit with Elemental Resistance map mods

You should end up with Mastermind of Discord and Beacon of Ruin. Whichever you take first entirely depends on what you prefer. I'd say that ideally, you'd first take up Shaper of Desolation and then move towards Beacon of Ruin. You can also go to Mastermind of Discord first, but I would only suggest doing that if you intend on using Herald of Ice with Warlord's Mark prior to finishing your Uber Labyrinth. This is certainly an option as discussed during the gem section of the guide.

It's also important to note that you can respec towards Paragon of Calamity if you intend on doing Uber Atziri. This will make you immune to Elemental Reflect. It's not ideal, but it does make the fight a lot less frustrating. I wouldn't advise farming Atziri without it.

Kill all for the two passive points.

I use the twice upgraded Soul of the Brine King for mapping and the twice upgradedSoul of Lunaris for Uber Elder. My minor Pantheon is Soul of Ryslatha.

[PoE 3.6 Pathfinder]Indigon Winter Orb Shaper DPS Build

First time writing a guide here so pls bear with me. This is the 3rd char I made this season. Started with pathfinder indigon poet pen VD, then switched to this season's meta elementalist winter orb. While the elementalist build is top notch on clear speed, what I didn't quite like that the damage on bosses and tankiness felt lacking at times. This build is designed as an all-rounder to farm T16 guardians and U.Elder consistently deathless. SIngle target damage is much higher while mapping clear speed for me is fast enough with the herald of ice + quicksilver + phase run though it doesn't have the explosiveness on elementalist. I think Pathfinder is much underrated for winter orb builds.

Pros and Cons:
+easy deathless boss kills including shaper/ uber elder/ uber Atziri
+MOM extra EHP (8200 for me with watcher's eye)
+Near Permanent flasks- Defense, AOE, speed and damage (more projectiles)
+immunity to all elemental ailments
+running around with RF and spamming spells is cool

-can't run ele reflect
-slower map clear compared to elementalist version
-no inpulsa + beacon of ruin explosion ecstasy (if that's your thing)
-Flask management

Don't get me wrong, Winter Orb is absolutely a great skill. The AOE, overlap damage is just excellent. However, if ur planning on going critical then it requires a lot of investment compare to Ice Spear. The new Ice Spear works so great. It receives a lot of love in patch 3.5 as well. Critical + Multi everything there. So it is easier to go critical using Ice Spear compare to Winter Orb.

By using the cast on channeling Ice Spear, the character could deal a huge sum of damage yet still getting Winter Orb AOE/auto hit benefit. That way, I could invest more on survival.

[PoE 3.6 Elementalist] Subzero Spider Winter Orb Build 

This build is actually pretty simple to run, but it can be a bit of disaster to run in the management department if you are not used to running something like this. We reserve a decent amount of our mana for Herald of Ice and Discipline and with how much mana is used to channel Winter Orb, you have to be really careful about how you use it. This build is all about mana management and also constantly being on the move. I would not channel more Winter Orb charges unless you are doing it in front of a pack so you leech some mana back so you can sustain the channeling. Do not just randomly channel Winter Orb to as many stages as you can if there are no enemies nearby. You will just drop to 0 mana and then have to wait for your mana to regenerate.

This build uses the full Fenumus set so by default we are already looking at a midrange budget by default. I understand with this kind of budget, we could make a potentially stronger build and for cheaper, but that was not the main focus of this build. It was just to use the whole Fenumus set alongside Winter Orb. Though this is the case, the build still holds itself up pretty well and surprisingly has downed a ton of bosses on my end deathless.

This build utilizes the full Fenumus set alongside Tulfall so I would not say that there are really any alternates to the build since this build specifically is aiming to use the full set and abuse Tulfall. I already explained a bit on what to look for gear above in the optional/recommended section. Just get energy shield+resists on your other gear and jewelry and you should be ok. Any other uniques you want to utilize are of your own choice. Just remember that capping your resistances may prove even more difficult since this build already utilizes 5 uniques. Your choice though.

Pros & Cons:
+ Respectable clear speed (not the fastest, but still respectable for using the full Fenumus set)
+ Permanent Frenzy Charges/uptime
+ Permanent Power Charge sustain/generation uptime
+ Energy shield regen/energy shield gained on hit naturally from Fenumus set
+ Aspect of the Spider for more damage/survivability (alongside the Fenumus set)
+ Can do all content in the game (some content may be more difficult just because we only deal elemental damage or may take longer since this is not some billion damage build)
+ Constantly on the move, so surviving is a lot higher
+ Elementalist passives can guarantee us shocks, chills and ignites and also just boosts our damage in general
+ Chaos Inoculation makes us 100% immune to chaos damage
+ Easily break 6K+ energy shield with your Poe items and skill tree
+ A 2-3 mana on spell hit ring is enough to sustain mana (Warlord’s Mark is better but more expensive)
+ Possible to do no leech/no regen maps (need mana on spell hit ring if so)
+ Great to Delve and do Incursions with
+ Handles syndicate encounters very well (cast Winter Orb and runaway to let Winter Orb finish them off)
+ Does not require an expensive stat stick
- NOT a league starter but possible (Fenumus' Shroud can only be equipped at level 67 and energy shield gear with higher energy shield values usually have higher level requirements)
- Need to manage Winter Orb uptime while constantly moving around (could be difficult for players not used to these kinds of builds)
- Cannot do elemental reflect mods (unless you take Paragon of Calamity, then you have to either drop Beacon of Ruin or Mastermind of Discord which I would not really recommend)
- Mana management can be difficult for those not experienced managing their mana or using these kinds of builds
